Description

Rookery Lodge is a lodge dating from the early 17th century with later 19th-century additions, situated on Boosey's Walk in New Buckenham. The front of the lodge is brick with a slate roof, while the rear has plain tile roofing. It is two storeys high. The facade has been refaced with gault brick. A pantiled skewback arch shelters the entrance door, which is positioned to the left of centre. There is a late 19th-century sash window on each floor. The roof is gabled with a bell shape. The south wall has been rebuilt, but retains an early 17th-century stepped gable parapet constructed in English bond. Two square windows are set beneath rubbed brick pediments below the eaves line; the left window is blocked. A rebuilt internal stack is present. A mid-19th-century outbuilding extends to the rear, featuring a catslide roof and a 20th-century stack. The lodge has a low parapet sitting on kneelers. The interior is largely 19th-century in style.

An early 17th-century brick wall runs northwards, abutting the lodge and following the east side of Boosey’s Walk. The wall has a brick plinth, a saw-toothed cornice, and coping stones. A blocked four-centred arched opening with hollow mouldings is flanked by two demi-octagonal piers on plinths.
