Description
The Tunstead War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, made of granite. It is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I listed building, and is prominently positioned by the churchyard wall facing Church Lane. The memorial features a granite wheel-head cross on a trapezoidal plinth with a moulded cap, and it sits on a single-step stone base. The entire structure is supported by a concrete foundation.
The plinth has a dedicatory inscription in leaded lettering that reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN EVER / GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE MEN OF / TUNSTEAD WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE / GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 / THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE / [NAMES]."
