Description
Sloley War Memorial is a First World War memorial, erected around 1920, located in the churchyard of St Bartholomew Church on Anchor Street in Sloley, Norfolk. It is prominently positioned just inside the churchyard entrance from the driveway, by the path leading to the church. The memorial features a wheel-head cross on a chamfered shaft with a moulded foot, which sits atop a four-sided plinth that has a moulded upper and moulded foot. This is raised on a three-tiered octagonal base, with the uppermost step made of stone and the lower two composed of a combination of stone and brick, finished with stone capping. The plinth displays inscriptions in incised lettering, which read: "TO THE/ GLORY/ OF GOD/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN/ OF SLOLEY/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919// (NAMES)/ 1939 – 1945/ (NAME)."
