Description
Longcot War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, with later additions for the Second World War. It is located in the Churchyard of St Mary the Virgin in the village of Longcot.
The memorial features a small rusticated granite wheel-headed cross set on a tapering plinth. The front face of the shaft displays a reversed sword carved in relief. The inscription appears at the base of the shaft and on the front face of the plinth. The shaft reads "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND," while the plinth continues with "IN HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 (NAMES) 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'." On the rear of the plinth, there is a bronze plaque with raised lettering that states "1939 – 1945 (NAMES)."
The memorial is set on a single-stepped base.
