Description

Downs Cottage is a 17th-century cottage situated on Longcot Fernham Road. It is constructed of rubble stone, featuring a gabled pantiled roof and end brick stacks. The front of the house, facing southeast, is two stories high and has three bays, with three-light, two-pane wooden casement windows. The ground-floor casements are set within semi-circular relieving arches of ashlar stone. A 20th-century gabled stone-tiled porch is centrally placed, and beneath it is a 19th-century panelled door with three rectangular fanlights above. An ammonite is set in the apex of the porch. A two-story roughcast addition extends to the rear, also with a gabled pantiled roof, and is lit on the southwest side by eight-pane leaded casement windows.
