45 And 45A, Newmarket Road

Nos. 45 and 45A on Newmarket Road is a house that has been divided into two residences. It dates from the early 19th century and is built of yellow brick with ashlar details. The building features an irregular hipped slate roof and has four brick chimneys in a Greek revival style. It is two storeys tall with an attic and has four first-floor windows. The end bays are marked by pairs of brick pilasters with capitals, while a single pilaster is found on the projecting bay, which has a pediment to the right of the center. There are steps leading up to a six-panelled door that has a plain overlight and an architrave with consoles. The ground floor windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set in similar moulded architraves. The first-floor sash windows, also with glazing bars, are positioned beneath a rendered frieze decorated with laurel-wreath motifs. The left bay features a hipped gable front roof, while there is a gabled and pedimented dormer to the right of the center and another similar dormer on the right side elevation.
