Description
Nos. 2 and 2A on Fairfield Road is a house built in the mid-19th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed from yellow brick and features a slate roof with scattered brick chimneys. The building was originally designed in an L-shape and has two storeys with a four-window range.
On the left side, there is a projecting hipped gable-fronted wing that includes a canted ground-floor bay with a round-headed window, as well as another two-storey canted bay to the right. The eaves are supported by brackets. The original wing on the right is partly hidden by a later 19th-century single-storey extension that has a flat roof and recessed brick panels.
The entrance on the left features a panelled double-leaf door with a plain overlight, flanked by part-fluted brick pilasters that have egg and dart decoration on the entablature, topped with a dentilled cornice. To the right of the door, there is a tripartite window, and throughout the building, there are large-paned sash windows. An egg and dart cornice runs below the coping of the parapet.
