Description
No. 8 Market Place is an early 18th-century building, possibly with an earlier core. It is constructed of brick and flint, featuring a colourwashed brick facade and a steep black pantile roof. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-bay facade that includes a recessed central bay. There is a later projecting shopfront with pilasters and a lead flat roof, which has a moulded timber eaves cornice. The western end has a splayed corner.
On the first floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars and flat rubbed arches. The roof features three lead-roofed dormers with modern casements and a moulded eaves cornice. The gable is parapetted and includes a chimney, with brick tumbling on the western side. There are four blocked window openings in the western gable.
To the south, there is a two-storey wing made of brick and coursed flint, with a chimney stack at the southern gable. The western side has sashes, one of which has a semi-circular head, and there are dentil eaves along the roofline. The southern gable has casement and blocked window openings.
On the eastern side, there is a projecting wing that is rendered and colourwashed, featuring a modern red brick facade and shopfront. This wing has a steep-pitched pantile roof, partly black-glazed, and is hipped on the northern side. It also includes a modern flat-roofed dormer and brick dentil eaves, with a parapetted gable to the south.
