Description
11 and 12 Market Row are a pair of shops located in Great Yarmouth, dating from the late 17th century but rebuilt in the early 19th century. They are constructed of red brick and feature roofs made of pantiles and interlocking tiles. The buildings stand three storeys high and have a two-window range. The two ranges are parallel, with the rear one added later.
No. 11 has a late 19th-century plate-glass shop front that includes reeded side pilasters under consoles and a recessed central entrance. No. 12 has a similar shop front but features a bowed display window. Both shops have two 9/9 unhorned sash windows on the first floor, which are recessed and set within hidden boxes, and are topped with gauged skewback arches. The second floor has two similar 6/6 sash windows. A modillion eaves cornice runs along the top, and both buildings have mansard roofs.
At the rear, there is a four-storey cross-wing that was raised in the early 19th century from a two-storey wing. Inside, the first floor retains late 17th-century bridging beams and a wall plate, both featuring sunk-quadrant mouldings and tongue stops. There is also a winder staircase leading to the attic, while the ground floors are plain and have been altered.
