Description
No. 8 Market Row is a shop that was formerly used for domestic accommodation above, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of red brick and features pantiled roofs arranged in two parallel ranges. The building stands three storeys high and has a two-window range. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front beneath a prominent fascia board. On the first floor, there are two 2/2 sash windows under gauged skewback arches, while the second floor has two 6/6 sash windows, also under gauged skewback arches. The building is topped with a timber modillion eaves cornice and has gabled roofs. At the rear, there is a 20th-century lean-to on the ground floor. The first floor features a wide segmental-arched window flanked by two narrower blocked windows. The second floor has two 6/6 sash windows.
Inside, the ground floor east wall is adorned with large-framed 18th-century fielded panelling. The first-floor room also displays complete large-framed 18th-century fielded panelling, including cupboard doors. A winder staircase leads to the attic.
