Description
No. 3 Howard Street South is a late 18th century house that was converted into a public house in the 19th century and later transformed into a shop in the late 20th century. The building is made of colourwashed red brick and features a roof covered with 20th century concrete pantiles. It stands three storeys tall and has a three-window range. The late 20th century shop front consists of plate glass beneath a fascia board that extends to include the adjacent building. The first floor is illuminated by three 2/2 horned sash windows with flush frames and segmental heads. The second floor has three 18th century 2/2 unhorned sashes, also with flush frames. The roof is gabled and has a bell base, with a stack located on the rear slope at the north end. Inside, there is a cellar with patches of 16th century brick. The first floor features a chamfered bridging beam and a re-used bridging beam with sunk quadrant mouldings.
