Description
12 and 13 Broad Row are two shops that have been converted into one, with origins dating back to the 17th century and a rebuilding that occurred in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick and topped with pantile roofs. A late 20th-century plate-glass shop front spans both shops and features a prominent fascia board.
No. 12 is three storeys high with a three-window range, while No. 13 is two storeys with a two-window range. The first floor of No. 12 has three 2-light casements, and the second floor has three 3/6 sash windows, all set under gauged skewback arches and in recessed reveals. The building has a gabled roof and a full-height gabled cross-wing at the rear. No. 13 features two 2/2 sash windows on the first floor, also in recessed reveals, and has a gabled roof with a rear parallel range that is similarly gabled.
Inside, the rear wing of No. 12 contains cruciform sunk-quadrant bridging beams from the 17th century, while the rear section of No. 13 has a roof supported by thin early 17th-century upper crucks, which are enhanced by heavy collars.
