Description
No. 26 Broad Row is a shop located in Great Yarmouth, dating from the early 17th century, which incorporates an earlier wall. The building was remodeled in the late 19th century when the facade was added. It has two storeys and features a two-window range. The exterior is made of whitewashed brick beneath a roof that is partly covered with pantiles at the front and plain tiles at the rear.
The early 20th-century shop front is made of plate glass and is set beneath a projecting fascia board. On the first floor, there are two recessed 8/8 unhorned sash windows. The building has a timber eaves cornice and a gabled roof. The south return wall is constructed of coursed flint and bricks. The rear wall dates back to the early 16th century and is part of the former Carmelite Friary that was located on this site; it is made of flint and brick and features a 20th-century first-floor window and a lean-to staircase passage. The roof has a gabled dormer.
Inside, the cellar contains a 17th-century bridging beam, and there are blocked steps leading up to a former yard at the rear. The first floor displays false timber framing, and the roof structure consists of five bays of early 17th-century upper crucks, principals, cambered collars, and two tiers of butt purlins.
