Description
No. 13 Bury Street is a shop that dates back to the early 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. The building is timber-framed and features 19th-century gault brick front pilasters and a north return wall. The exterior is roughcast and colourwashed, topped with a plain tile roof. It has a right-angle plan, presenting a gable to the road, and consists of two storeys and an attic. The shopfront has been updated with 20th-century glass. Originally, the upper two storeys were jettied, but now only the attic remains visible. The first floor features an oriel window with two-over-two late 19th-century sashes, and there is one two-over-two late 19th-century sash window at the gable head. The roof is bell-based and hipped at the west end. The south return has replaced sashes and doors, while the west gable has one 17th-century lattice window. Inside, the principal studs have solid arched braces that rise to chamfered tie beams. The roof structure was not accessible during the review but is likely to be of interest.
