Description

Fairview is a house located on King Street in New Buckenham, dating from the late 16th century but restored between 1976 and 1978. It features a timber frame with rendered wattle and daub infill, a front roof slope covered with pantiles, and a rear roof with corrugated tiles. The building is two storeys high and has an open hall that was floored in the 17th century. The entrance door is positioned to the right of centre, next to a pair of casement windows, with an additional casement window to the left and two more on the first floor. All the window detailing is from the restoration period. The house has a gabled roof, while the rear was completely rebuilt in the 1970s, with a roof that connects continuously to two adjacent houses to the west. Most interior features have been removed, but on the first floor, there is evidence of the original open hall, including heavy scantling studs and a wall plate. The original tie beam roof was altered in the 17th century to allow for the insertion of doors to the upper floor of the hall. The roof was also replaced during the restoration in 1976-78.
