Description
Valley Farmhouse is a house dating from the 16th century and later. It has a timber frame that is encased in 19th-century red brick and was restored in the 20th century. The house features a steeply pitched roof covered with pantiles, which replaced the original thatch. It stands two storeys high with attics. Originally, it had an open hall with a cross passage, but it was floored and modified to include a lobby entrance in the 17th century. The windows are mostly from the 20th century, consisting of two and three-light casements with cambered and segmental arches over the ground floor openings. The entrance door to the cross passage is located in the north wall, slightly off-centre to the east. There are plain brick pilasters at the corners and aligned with the chimney stack. The west gable was rebuilt in the 20th century and has casements on each floor level. The chimney is off-centre to the west and features three linked lozenge-shaped shafts. There are attic skylights on the north and south roof slopes, and the lobby entrance is on the south side. A pantiled lean-to is present on the east gable. Inside, there is a cross passage with two service doors, one of which is now blocked. A winding 17th-century stair is located against the south side of the stack. The principal posts are jowled, with arched braces supporting the tiebeams.
