Description
Hill Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 16th century, with modifications made in the 17th century. At the time of the survey, it was undergoing extensive renovation. The structure is timber-framed with 20th-century blockwork infill, and the roof has been partly re-clad in pantiles. The house has two storeys and an attic, originally designed with a cross passage plan that was modified to include a lobby entrance in the 17th century.
The east wall features a six-light diamond-mullion window on the first floor, along with a small three-light window that has ovolo-moulded mullions. There are also 19th-century casement windows with chamfered frames, as well as two 20th-century entrance frames. An off-centre axial stack is present, and to the west of the stack is a gabled 17th-century staircase tower that contains an oak winding newel stair. The west wall has four and six-light mullion windows, and there are square-headed 'service' door openings at the north end of the hall. Additionally, there is evidence of an earlier queen post roof, with tie beams that have stepped run-out chamfer stops, and a butt-purlin roof featuring diagonal wind bracing.
