Description

Hedenham Lodge is a house dated 1711, located on Earsham Road in Hedenham. The building is constructed of red brick and features steeply pitched pantile roofs, with plain tiles on the west slope of the main range. It is two storeys tall with attics, and has a 1.5 storey east range, forming an L-shape. The main facade faces west and is symmetrical with five bays. The ground floor has cross-casements with segmental heads, and there is a central four-panel door framed by a simple pedimented doorcase. A platband runs at first floor level, and the shaped north and south gables have moulded brick eaves corbels.

The roof includes three gabled attic dormers with 2-light casements and decorative bargeboards topped with finials. There is a large axial stack located off-centre to the south, featuring four square chimney shafts with a corbelled cap. The north gable has a 2-light casement at each level and displays the iron letters "IHD." The south gable features two pairs of glazed doors, as well as an attic casement. A catslide lean-to is present at the southeast corner, which has a stepped parapet and ovolo-moulded casements.

On the east side, there is a gabled stair turret opposite the stack, with an ovolo-moulded cross-window to the staircase that has a segmental head. The 1.5 storey range projects to the east and contains two 3-light casements, while the centre section of the south wall is rendered and colourwashed. There are two gabled attic dormers on the south and one on the north side. A central axial stack with three square linked shafts is present, along with a shaped east gable that features a square ground floor bay with a pantiled roof.

Inside, the lodge has bolection-moulded fire surrounds and a contemporary staircase with turned balusters on a closed string and square newels.
