Description
Bakehouse Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century. It is timber framed with wattle and daub infill and features a thatched roof. The front of the building was altered, likely in the late 17th century, when an additional bay was added to the west. The cottage has two storeys set on a brick plinth. There is a central door with 18th-century casement windows on both sides, and two more 18th-century casements on the first floor. The gabled roof has overhanging eaves, and there is an internal ridge stack on the eastern side, along with a subsidiary stack to the right of center. At the rear, there is a mid-20th-century brick lean-to extension, and two renewed casements are located under the eaves.
Inside, the dining room features very heavy scantling and close studding. The original exterior framing of the west wall is now free-standing. There is a plain chamfered bridging beam and a renewed fireplace. The roof consists of tie beams, collars, and clasped purlins. A window in the original west gable has been blocked, and some windbracing is present.
