Description

The Red Lion Hotel is a hotel located in Old Hatfield, dating from the late 18th century, with 19th-century additions and a large rear extension from around 1950. The building is constructed of red brick and features a slate roof. It stands three storeys tall and has three sash windows on the main front, with the ground floor windows dating from the 19th century. The centre of the façade slightly projects and has a pediment with a blank roundel. The first floor includes a central Venetian window, while the second floor features a semicircular three-light sash window, both with gauged brick lintels. On the left side of the ground floor, there is a mid-19th-century canopied porch in Gothic style, and the left end of the elevation has a two-storey canted sash window bay. A continuous band runs along the first floor, and the eaves are dentilled brick. There is also a single-storey 19th-century addition on the right side.
