Description
The Old Coach House is a house, likely originating in the 15th century, with a timber-framed hall house design and a south cross wing. A north cross wing was added in the 17th century. The walls are brick infill, with roughcast and plastered surfaces. The south cross wing gable end overhangs the ground floor. The roof has a steep pitch covered in machine tiles. An axial chimney stack was added in the 17th century, within the main hall space, alongside the side of the south wing. A first floor was also added at this time. Most of the windows are replacements from the early 19th century, comprised of glazing bar sashes. An original rectangular bay window sits below the overhang. The north gable end features a small shop window from the early to mid-19th century, with a console frieze and shallow cornice. A doorway, adjacent to the overhang, is topped with a flat hood supported by long, shaped brackets. The original section of the house has crown post trusses.
