Description

The gates, screen, and four gateposts to Hatfield Park were erected in the late 19th century by the Third Marquess of Salisbury, located on the approach to Hatfield House. The gateposts are made of white composite stone and feature three panels of strapwork ornament, topped with statues of lions holding shields. The gates consist of three sections, each measuring six, nine, and six panels wide and four panels high, with each panel displaying intricate cast-iron strapwork and grotesque ornamentation. The design includes scrolled overthrows.
