Description
The George and Dragon is a hotel dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red and vitreous brick, featuring a shallow plinth with convex coping and wide panelled eaves. The building has a slate roof with a brick chimney on the left and another rebuilt chimney on the right. It stands two storeys high and has four bays, with the right bay featuring a gauged depressed arch over a carriage entry and a 4-pane sash window above. The remaining bays are double-fronted, with the outer bays having 4-pane sashes, although the ground floor sashes have been renewed. The centre bay includes an arched radiating sash window above the door, which is accompanied by a similar fanlight, flush panelled reveals, and an arched panelled hood supported by brackets. All windows have gauged heads and 20th-century louvred shutters. At the rear, there is a small wing made of flint with brick dressings and barred horizontal sliding sashes on the first floor, along with a 20th-century brick block at the far end of the rear wing.
