Description
This is a milepost located to the west of Comet roundabout, opposite the Comet Public House. It dates from around 1820 and is made of cast iron with a painted finish. The milepost has a triangular plan and is open at the back. The top is triangular in shape but is damaged. The face below is chamfered. The top is inscribed with "HATFIELD 1," while the right side reads "ST ALBANS 4, READING 49." The inscription on the left side has been renewed in paint.
