Description

This is a milepost located to the west of the junction with Royal Road, dating from around 1820. It is made of cast iron and is painted. The milepost has a triangular shape, open at the back, with a triangular top and a chamfered face below. The top is inscribed with "HATFIELD 4," while the right side displays "ST ALBANS 1" and "READING 46." The inscription on the left side has been renewed in paint.
