Description

No. 178 on London Road is an early 19th-century building, likely constructed between 1820 and 1830. It is two storeys high and finished in stucco. The façade features three sash windows with glazing bars and margional glazing. Each bay of the house is accentuated by full-height plain pilasters that extend into a plain frieze. A central porch with columns adds to the entrance. The roof is flat with a slight pitch, covered in slate and hipped on both sides. To the right, there is a later two-storey extension that includes one sash window and a large central stucco bay with modern windows, a cornice, and a blocking course, which may be linked to the work of George Smith.
