Description
St Albans South Signal Box is a 19th-century structure built in 1892. It is a Midland Railway signal box designed in a three bay type. The building features a timber frame with a weather-boarded ground floor, where the outer bays contain small framed windows. The first floor is fully glazed, consisting of two bays with three lights each and one bay with two lights, all featuring small paned sliding casement windows. The roof is hipped and covered with slate. Access to the first floor side entrance is provided by a wooden flight of steps with plain bannisters. Additionally, there is an iron bracketed balcony at the front. This signal box is noted for being a well-preserved example of a three bay Midland Railway signal box.
