Description
Winches Farm, located on Kay Walk in Colney Heath, is a farmhouse that was used as offices at the time of listing. It dates from the mid-17th century and features a timber frame that has been cased in painted brick and stucco from the 18th to 19th centuries. The building has a plain tile roof with a central ridge stack that consists of six joined shafts, most of which have been renewed. The structure is designed in a T-plan with a lobby entrance and stands two storeys tall.
The front facade includes three windows, with the outer windows being three-light leaded casements and the central window a two-light leaded casement, all in their original metal frames. The central door, dating from the 19th century, has a glazed pane, a moulded frame, and a flat hood above it.
Inside, the farmhouse features exposed chamfer-stopped beams. There is a rear central staircase with a landing that has tall slat balusters. Additionally, there is a two-storey contemporary rear projection flanked by lean-to ranges, and the rear ground floor has good three-light casements.
