Description
Carrs Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations and additions made in the late 18th or early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings and features Collyweston stone slated roofs. The building has a T-plan with a ridge stack and gable end stacks, all made of ashlar and featuring moulded cornices. It stands two storeys high with attics and includes a single-storey late 18th-century addition at the back.
The farmhouse has parapet gables with chamfered stone copings and original ovolo moulded mullioned windows on each elevation. The east elevation has a blocked pointed four-centred arched doorway. On the west elevation, there are two ground floor 19th-century four-paned hung sash windows to the left of the entrance, which features a six-panelled door and a rectangular fanlight. The first floor has one three-light casement window with stone ovolo mullions and another wooden three-light casement window with a wooden lintel.
Inside, there is a large open hearth in the rear kitchen with a chamfered mantel beam, while other hearths are sealed. The first floor north room has a stone chimney piece with moulded jambs, and the ceilings feature stop-chamfered and boxed ceiling beams.
