Description
Nos. 9 and 10 on St Botolph Green are two cottages that were originally one dwelling, dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations from the 19th century and early 20th century additions. The cottages are built from coursed limestone rubble with freestone dressings and have roofs covered with Collyweston stone slates. They are two storeys tall with attics and likely feature an original three-unit plan, along with lean-to and two-storey extensions on the east and west sides. There is a central ridge stack and an end stack on the right side, both with rebuilt brick shafts. The gables have parapets with chamfered coping on the left side. There are two entrances at the rear and a hood moulding above a first-floor window on the front. The building has four ground floor windows and two first floor windows of various sizes, all with wooden lintels.
Inside, there is a stop-chamfered axial beam and a boxed cross beam, as well as a deeply cambered mantel beam over the open hearth in the east room.
