Description

Westward Farmhouse is a mid-17th century farmhouse with later alterations. It is timber-framed and plastered, with limestone rubble end stacks - the left-hand stack having a red brick shaft. The original roof of Collyweston slate was replaced with corrugated iron. The farmhouse has a two-unit plan with dairy and kitchen outshuts. Originally, doors were located to the left of the center of the building. The ground floor has two three-light casement windows; the first floor has one horizontal sliding sash window and one fixed light window. The interior reveals the exposed timber-frame, including curved tension braces and, in the west first floor room, a recessed area for a window shutter. There are also stop-chamfered ceiling beams. A 19th century staircase is present, along with sealed hearths.
