Description

The Old Rectory is a farmhouse, believed to have origins in the 15th century, with substantial reconstruction in the 18th and 19th centuries and further alterations in the mid-20th century. The building is timber-framed, now with 20th-century brick and block infill rendered over. It has a thatched roof. Originally, the plan was L-shaped with a lobby entry. The main front is a four-window range featuring 20th-century PVC casement windows, likely within original openings. A 20th-century lean-to porch with a concrete tile roof is located to the right of centre. The roof is gabled, with a hip to the right. A rear wing mirrors the main front, and an infill between the wings, likely dating to the early and mid-19th century and remodelled in the 20th century, connects the two. A 19th-century six-panelled, part-glazed door is on the left side. The interior features an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade. A room on the left contains a 17th-century fireplace with a chamfered stone surround and a four-centred arch head, as well as a stop-chamfered spine beam. The kitchen and a room to the far right have the remains of open fireplaces, one retaining the original bressumer and bread oven, and chamfered spine beams. Some timber framing is visible in the first-floor rooms. The building served as the Rectory from the 17th century until the mid-20th century. It is included on the list for group value.
