THURNING MAIN STREET The Convent

House. Probably late C16 and mid C19. Close-studded timber framing and painted brick, with lathe and plaster and brick infill panels. Thatched roof. 3-unit lobby entry plan. 2 storeys 3-window range of C19 horizontal sliding sashes, with glazing bars, at first floor and C20 casements with, glazing bars, at ground floor. Blocked window between first floor windows to left may be original C16 opening. Blocked doorway to right of centre. 2 bays to centre and left have exposed timber framing with diagonal wind braces to first floor. Ground floor infilled with brickwork. Bay to right reconstructed in brick mid C19. Windows are under shallow brick arches and blocked door to far right has similar head. Central brick and stone stack, now rendered. Rear elevation is similar with C20 door and porch to right of centre and exposed timber framing to centre and right. Interior not inspected but noted as having open fireplace and ceiling beams.
