Description

Lower Farmhouse is a building that has been converted from a farmhouse to a house. It likely dates from the mid to late 17th century and was altered in the 19th century. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and features a plain tile roof from the 20th century. Originally, it had a three-unit plan and is two storeys high.

The front has an irregular range of four windows, which are casements, some of which have glazing bars, all set under stop-chamfered wood lintels. The left ground floor window has a moulded stone surround. To the right of the centre is a part-glazed plank door that has a chamfered stone surround with a four-centred arch head. There are remains of ashlar gable parapets and the bases of stone stacks at the ridge and ends of the building.

At the rear left, there is a lean-to extension that features a two-light stone mullion window in its side wall. There is also a central two-storey extension from the 19th century that has a three-light stone mullion window to the right. The gable to the left of the main front has a small arch-head window on the first floor, which is now blocked. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have remains of an open fireplace.
