Description
Lower Hilcot Farmhouse is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and features 20th-century stone stacks. The main structure is rectangular in plan and has a cross gable at the left-hand end. A 19th-century extension projects forward from the cross gable. The main body of the farmhouse has two storeys and an attic, which is lit by a 20th-century hipped dormer with slate hanging. On the first floor, there is one single-light and one two-light 20th-century casement window to the right of the cross gable. The front door is located off-centre to the left. The 19th-century extension is one and a half storeys high and includes a 20th-century gabled two-light half dormer. The main body has gable end stacks. Inside, there is a large open fireplace with a bressumer and a stone fireplace featuring a flat-chamfered surround and a moulded mantel. The roof space contains curved principal rafters with close-studded infill.
