Description
Staple Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 18th century, possibly incorporating an earlier structure. It is built from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and features stone stacks, one of ashlar and one from the 20th century. The farmhouse has a 'T'-shaped plan with an extension on the left gable end. It stands two storeys high with an attic and has a symmetrical facade with three windows. The windows are all 12-pane sashes, mostly with horns, and have plain architraves with keystones. The central front door also has a plain architrave with a keystone. There is a two-light, flat-chamfered stone-mullioned garret window in the right gable end, and a similar window in the gable end of the rear wing. To the left of the main body, there is a single-storey extension with an attic that is lit by a 20th-century skylight. The extension has two single-width doorway openings with plain architraves and concrete lintels. The main body and extension both have gable end stacks, and a former lower roofline of the main body is visible in the right gable end. The interior has not been inspected.
