Description
The North Coach House at Colesbourne Park is a stable building dated 1842, designed by David Brandon for H. J. Elwes. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a limestone tufa plinth and features cross-roll saddles on the parapet gables. The building has coved eaves with cast iron gutters supported by slender brackets and a plain tile roof.
The central section includes an arched coachway with a room above, flanked by single-storey stable wings on either side. The central gabled cross-wing has large chamfered three-centred arches, with the rear arch now blocked. Above the arch, there is a 2-light window with a hoodmould, a ribbon datestone in the gable, and three heraldic shields. Each wing has three windows and one doorway; the doorways feature four-centred arches, while all windows are 2-light with leaded casements. This building is part of a group of three surrounding a central courtyard.
