Description

The Old House is a former labourer's cottage that later became a butcher's shop and is now a house. It dates from the 17th century, 18th century, and 20th century. The building has an asymmetrical 'U'-shaped plan, featuring a rectangular 17th-century range with an 18th-century extension at the left gable end. A 19th-century former butcher's shop extends forward from the right side.

The 17th-century range is 1½ storeys high and includes a 20th-century lean-to extension at the front, which is lit by a three-light stone-mullioned casement window. To the right of this is a 20th-century plank door. The upper floor has a dormer window in the Cotswold style, rebuilt in the 20th century, with steel casements set within a two-light stone-mullioned surround.

The 18th-century extension to the left is 2½ storeys tall and has a single bay facing the former butcher's shop, which is lit by 12-pane sash windows with plain architraves and triple keystones. The single-storey former butcher's shop projects forward to the right of the front door of the 17th-century range and has a two-light steel casement window in its left-hand wall.

The building features an axial stack for the early core, a gable end stack for the 18th-century extension, and another for the former butcher's shop, all topped with moulded cappings. The flat gable end has coping with roll-cross saddles. The interior has not been inspected.
