4/160 Upper Hilcot Farm 26.1.61 II

Detached farmhouse. C15-16 and C20. Close-studded timber- framing to ground floor at front with square-panelled timber- framing to first floor above. Apex of right gable end pebble- dashed. Rear wall; coursed roughly squared limestone. Single bay left of timber-framed range pebble-dashed. Roof; stone slate at front, concrete tile at rear. 'T'-shaped plan to early range, with C20 extension to left gable end. C20 extensions at rear not of special interest. Main body; 2 storeys and attic lit by four C20 two-light roof dormers with 2-light steel casements with glazing bars. Four-windowed facade, mostly C20 casements with glazing bars (respecting timber-framing). Moulded brackets below first floor windows to timber-framed part, one with carved lion's head. Double-chamfered stone-mullioned window with stopped hood, now partially obscured in stone gable at rear. Access now via C20 extension at rear. Stepped'gable end coping. Interior not inspected. A rare example of timber-framing in an area where stone built construction predominated.
