Description

This is a milepost located on St. Stephen's Hill, dating from around 1882. It is made of cast iron and is painted. The milepost has a triangular shape with an open back and a triangular top. The face of the milepost is chamfered. It features inscriptions on the top indicating a distance to Hatfield of 6 miles, and on the right side, distances to Watford of 7 miles and Reading of 44 miles. On the left side, it indicates a distance to St Albans of 1 mile.
