Description
The Comet Public House is a hotel built in 1933 by E B Musman. It features a design that is said to resemble an aeroplane, constructed from red brick with stone dressings on a steel frame. The building is two storeys high, with a prominent centrepiece that has a rounded end, and the ground floor extends beyond the first floor. On either side, there are wings that are also half round but only one storey tall. The side elevations have five windows, predominantly featuring original steel framed windows, although two modern windows have been added in previously blank wall sections on the front. Clipsham stone dressings are present above and below the windows and on the parapets. The flat roofs are not visible, and the original roof lantern has been removed. The interior has undergone alterations. This building is recognized as a pioneering hotel in the modern style.
