Description

This building, located at 2 Southdown Road, is a house dating from the late 15th century or early 16th century. It is a hall house with an original cross wing on the south side. The ground floor is constructed of 18th-century red brick, while the upper floor features painted brick and roughcast, with some exposed framing. The house has one storey and attics, and includes two 20th-century casement windows, one of which is a recent casement bow on the ground floor of the cross wing. There is a gabled dormer on the hall. Inside, the hall has an inserted floor from the late 16th century or early 17th century, and a 19th-century stack at the north end, which is in the position of a former timber stack. The south wall of the hall displays fragmentary wall paintings dating to around 1600. The roof contains parts of two crown posts.
