Description

LITTLE PACKINGTON SCHOOL LANE SP28NW (East side) 5/91 Moat House Farmhouse - II House. C15 open-hall and north-west cross-wing. Floor and stack inserted late C16. South-east cross-wing possibly added C17. Substantial C19 alterations. Timber-frame possibly remaining in part under pebbledash, but probably replaced by brick. Plain-tiled gable roofs with late C19 bargeboarding. Plan of double-ended hall house with cross-passage at rear of the stack. 2 storeys. Late C19/early C20 gable dormer to main range and three-light wood casement in segmental arch at ground floor. Late C19/early C20 doorway and half-glazed door. Similar fenestration to gables of cross-wings. Interior: Evidence of open-hall in partition wall with large panels having tension bracing. This wall is located between the former open hall and the north-west cross-wing. The roof truss associated with this wall is still partly intact. In the roof the upper half of the rafters have been incorporated in the C19 roof. This pair of rafters is well carpentered, halved at the apex and smoke blackened. In the roof over the north-west cross-wing the roof structure with through-purlins is similar. Broad stop-chamfered main beam inserted to C15 open-hall at ground floor.
