Description

Collins Antiques is a shop and warehouse located on a slope in Wheathampstead, with a structure dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The exterior features a timber frame interior, which is likely older. The lower half of the building is constructed of red brick, while the upper half is finished in stucco. It has a plain tile roof and consists of two storeys with attics. The lower section includes a large cellar and a segmental-arched cart entrance on the end elevation. The gable end above has two windows, and the road elevation has a floor band with all but one of the six original openings now blank. The upper section features four flush glazing bar windows, including two original sash windows, and two doors topped with pedimented hoods supported by elaborate cut brackets. Inside, there are pairs of floor beams with wide chamfers. The arched entrance is topped with early 20th-century brick and cast iron railings that extend along the sloping approach walls.
