Description

16 Mill Street is a shop and warehouse with a dwelling above, dating from the 18th century, with a rear wing that consists of two sections from the 16th and 18th centuries. The building has three windows, is two storeys high with attics, and is constructed of painted gault brick featuring a string course at the first floor and parapet gables. The roof is covered with plaintiles and includes 18th-century hipped dormers with small-pane casements. Gable chimneys are made of gault brick.

On the first floor, there are small-pane sash windows, two of which have louvred shutters. The ground floor features two 20th-century shop windows. The entrance has a doorway with a segmental arch made of gauged brick, and a 20th-century glazed door set within an 18th-century frame.

The rear wing is divided into two parts. The main section from the 16th century is two storeys tall, timber-framed and rendered, with an asbestos-sheeted roof (one slope is plaintiled) and a truncated axial chimney. It has 20th-century casements and a blocked diamond-mullioned window on the first floor, showcasing well-preserved timber framing. A small addition from the 18th century is located at the north end, also two storeys high with two windows, built of gault brick with a dentil eaves cornice and parapet gables, and a plaintiled roof with a gable chimney. Extensions from the 19th and 20th centuries are not of special interest.
