Description

Number 85 and Moons is a shop with store rooms above and a dwelling to the right, built in the early 18th century, with alterations from the early 19th century and mid-20th century. The building has two storeys, featuring a central range of four windows and a central doorway, flanked by narrow two-storey wings that are one window wide. The main facade extends for one window on both the left and right sides. The walls are made of rendered brick with scratched ashlaring, and there is a string course at the first floor, along with shallow recesses with semi-circular heads in the gable of each wing. The hipped roof, which is slated, was rebuilt in the early 19th century, resulting in higher eaves and a lower pitch; a small section of the earlier roof remains, with plain tiles, on the right side. The wings feature gables with broken pediments. The building has sash windows with small panes, including several early 18th-century sashes at the front and rear that have thick glazing bars and unusually small panes. In the mid-20th century, the central facade up to the first floor between the wings was removed, and a one-storey flat-roofed shop was added to the front, which is not of special interest.
