Description
Ashfords, also known as York Buildings, is a shop built in 1832, as indicated by a painted stone plaque. The building features six windows and stands three storeys tall, with attics above a central block that is two windows wide. It is constructed of gault brick and has a wooden broken pediment above the central block. The roof is slated and includes axial chimneys made of gault brick. The oversailing eaves have a deep soffit that is decorated with stars, although some of this decoration has been partly renewed. The sash windows vary in style: the first-floor windows have moulded architraves and cornices supported by console brackets, while the second-floor windows are small-pane sashes with semi-circular arched heads in the center and segmental arched heads on the sides. Several windows still have 19th-century blind boxes. A mid-20th century shop front runs the full length of the building.
