Description
The Swan Public House is a public house built around 1500, featuring an open hall with two bays and an additional bay at each end. A two-storey wing was added to the south in the mid to late 17th century, and the building was refronted in the early to mid 19th century. The ground floor is constructed of red brick, while the upper floor is roughcast, topped with a plain tile roof. The structure consists of two blocks, with the northern block being single storey and having attics. A large red brick chimney stack from the mid to late 17th century is located at the south end, featuring coped offsets and corbelled caps.
The front of the building has three canted window bays on the ground floor, with the southern two featuring sash windows. The northern block has a central door with reeded panels and a cut bracket hood, above which is a sash window. There is a 17th-century ridge stack. Inside, the south end contains ovolo moulded floor beams, and there is a low-ceilinged bay from around 1500 between the south end and the center, which features a 17th-century chamfer-stopped beam and a large inglenook. An early to mid 19th-century rear extension is located on the south side.
