Description
This is a 17th-century barn located 30 meters south of Wards Farm house. It features a timber frame set on a red brick sill and is covered in dark weatherboarding with a steep slate roof that extends over a small central projection at the rear. The barn has five tall bays facing north, with double doors in the middle bay and a small upper door in the projection. It includes jowled posts, curved braces supporting cambered tie-beams, and inclined queen-posts that hold the lower purlins of the clasped-purlin roof. The upper purlins are supported by a high collar with long queen-struts, and there are long straight tension braces in the walls.
