Description

Rooks Nest Farm House is a house from the early 17th century that was extended in the 18th century and altered in the 19th century. It features a timber frame on a flint base and has a tiled roof. The layout consists of a two-cell lobby entry with a wing added to the rear left, forming an L shape. The building has two storeys and an attic.

On the ground floor, there is a central entrance with a bracketed hood, flanked by 19th-century canted bay windows with sash windows and tiled heads. The first floor has two flush frame horizontal sliding sashes. A central square ridge stack has been rebuilt at the top. The right end of the house has a ground floor entrance and a first-floor horizontal sliding sash. The left end features ground floor French windows, a first-floor sash, and an attic horizontal sliding sash, all with flush frames.

There is a 19th-century gabled entrance porch with a side door where the main range meets the rear wing, which contains flush frame sashes. The rear gable end of the wing has first floor and attic horizontal sliding sashes, along with exposed plates and purlins. A catslide roof covers a lean-to outshut on the inner return, which has a stack and connects to another lean-to outshut at the rear of the main range, also with a catslide roof.

Inside, the house features exposed framing, jowled posts, curved tension braces, and a stop-chamfered ovolo moulded binding beam.
